Turkey Meatballs & Gravy
These Swedish Turkey Meatballs with Homemade Gravy are the kind of meal that makes your home smell amazing and your table feel extra cozy. It’s a simple, classic dish made with ground turkey, warm spices, and a silky gravy that comes together in minutes. In our Homeworthy Thanksgiving episode, Thanksgiving at Hillside Farm, I also added a Cranberry Port Glaze for a festive twist! But even without the glaze, these meatballs and gravy stand beautifully on their own as a comforting main dish.
INGREDIENTS
FOR THE MEATBALLS:
2 pounds ground turkey
2 medium onions, grated
2 cups plain panko breadcrumbs
2 large eggs
½ cup milk
2 teaspoons salt
½ teaspoon pepper
½ teaspoon allspice
Olive oil, for browning
FOR THE GRAVY:
4 tablespoons butter (½ stick)
¼ cup flour
5 cups chicken broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper, to taste
Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, grated onions, panko, eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and allspice. Mix gently until combined, then let the mixture rest for about 10 minutes.
Step 2: Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat with a drizzle of olive oil. Scoop and roll the turkey mixture into balls, then brown on all sides until golden, about 3–4 minutes per side. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Step 3: To make the gravy, melt butter in the same pan over medium heat. Whisk in flour to create a roux, cooking for 1–2 minutes until golden and bubbly. Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking constantly to remove any lumps.
Step 4: Add Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar, then season with salt and pepper. Continue whisking until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
Step 5: Return the meatballs to the pan, spooning gravy over the top. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until the meatballs are fully cooked through.
Step 6: Serve warm with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles – and a generous ladle of gravy.
